I stayed up to read this story in one sitting. Entertaining and enjoyable...I had read some poor reviews and wish to state that i have no idea what they were thinking because the story is interesting, the scenes do flow, the characters have depth and the book is interesting....personal opinion....I recommend this story for anyone who likes historical romance with intrigue and heady dialogue.Product details

A pinch of intrigue with a sprinkle of confusion, add in a fistful of lust and jealousy, and you've got an interesting tale. Other than the too-many times that the main characters made assumptions about each other's feelings or actions -resulting in chaos of some sort- this romance story would have been awesome. I did enjoy this book, though, and would try others from this author.
Young Lucy connives to ruin her reputation so that she doesn't have to marry the man her uncle has chosen and will be able to run her estate how she pleases. Her plan backfires when she flirts with a Derek, a visiting privateer, who is an undercover duke trying to discover the truth about his father's murder. Set in early 19th century England, this isn't just an ordinary historical romance, but a page turner starting with the privateer's plans, the naïvete of a young lady, their ensuing romantic relationship, and the intrigue of the smuggling ring. Author Stephie Smith seems to know how to choose just the right words so the story is fascinating to read to the end leaving you wanting more. I look forward to the next book from this promising new author.
Decent story that kept my interest but Derek's jealousy got old fast and the miscommunication between him and Lucy was tiring. Lucy was strong willed but not ridiculously so. She made a mess of things when trying to compromise herself but fortunately Derek was a gentleman or things could have been really awful. A couple of plot twists that were explained toward the end added a little intrigue. Readers might want to know there is quite a bit of detail with the bedroom scenes. I'll probably check out the others in the series.
I almost gave up on the Duke of Deception. It started out so slow and boring it could not hold my attention. It took until chapter 5 to actually show some life into the story. This book was way longer than it needed to be. Maybe if it was shorter and got into the "details" & purpose" sooner, it wouldn't have been so bad. This book was very predictable like most of the other duke & duchess books I've read. The only surprise was who was involved in the smuggling. Sorry, but this one was just boring!
The story takes place in 19th century England. It is love at first sight for Lady Louisa and Captain Wainwright. They have both recently lost their fathers. Lady Louisa is facing an arranged marriage by her uncle to an older man not to her liking, while Captain Wainwright is in disguise trying to hunt down a criminal ring of smugglers.
The story is quick paced and enjoyable. There was a particularly humorous conversation between Lady Louisa and her friend Sarah as she tries to describe "the birds and the bees." The only drawback to the story were the constant misunderstandings/fights/jealousies between them with little reason.
I really enjoyed reading your book, I have always liked historical romances. The intrigue, romance and suspense as I was reading kept me interested. Thank you for writing such a wonderful story.
The story was well written and the storyline well defined. The author drew the reader in and kept our interest as well as allowing us to experience her characters many emotions throughout the story. The story had intrigue, suspense, discoveries, betrayal, espionage, love, and a happily ever after.
